Brambleton

Welcome to the cookie-cutter world of suburbia.

Brambleton, in Loudoun County, is part of the sprawl of Washington, D.C. The suburb 33 miles east of D.C. sprung up in 2011. It features a typical town center and your standard housing developments. Overall, an attractive locale with very little character.

The family friendly New Year’s Eve morning event featured a 1K walk, 5K run and 10K run. The participants ranged from serious weekend warriors to once-or-twice-a-year trotters.
I did the 5K, while Colleen, my wife, did the 1K walk.

All for Charity

The "Ring In Hope" race benefited a number of local charities. I got a long-sleeve t-shirt. Col got a bell on a ribbon.

Hoggettes

The Hoggettes, fans of the Washington Redskins that wear dresses and pig noses, helped lead the warm-up.

Hoggettes Again

The warm-up took place on a rather large park in the heart of the Brambleton town center. But residents shouldn't get too attached to the green space ... signs around the grassy area read Future Retail Space.

Lining Up

Hanging out on the side so I don't get in the way of the serious runners.

And I'm Off....

Well, sort of. No need to rush until I pass the start line.

The Grand Tour

The scenic run started at the town center and then went behind the parking garage.

Into the Abyss

The bulk of the run brought us through a maze of housing developments.

Back to the Center

The race finished back at the town center.

Happy Returns

Col greeted me at the finish. While the 5K was well planned out, the 1K ended up being a poorly marked walk around the parking garage.
